Capone’s restaurant, Kingston Road

I have passed by Capone’s restaurant many times since it opened and often thought that I should call in for a coffee or a bite to eat, however because I assumed the only parking area was across the road I kept on going. Nothing could be further from the truth; there is a car park at the rear and an underground car park. This is accessed from the Knocknacarra Cross end of the set of shops. In fact you can even park right at the back door and walk directly in as I did.

Fine meat in Galway and fine wine in Tuam

I called in to see Brendan Loughnane in his relatively new butcher’s shop beside the Tesco Express located at Tornóg, Ballinfoyle, on the Headford Road. Brendan is part of the Loughnane dynasty of butchers who were originally from the Loughrea area and is a brother of Sean Loughnane who created Galway’s first super butchers/delicatessen at Forster Court some years ago. Brendan is a master butcher and spent about 30 years running his extremely busy butcher’s shops in Limerick city. He has collected many awards over the years for his products and all that knowledge and experience is there for the customer when you call in. The shop is open six days a week until 6.30pm.

Westport to host Turas na mBan

The town of Westport is to host Turas na mBan, a weekend dedicated to celebrating the journey of women, which takes place in the Knockranny House Hotel on Friday and Saturday October 17 and 18. This is the third successive year of this event, and on Friday evening the proceedings will get under way with music, dancing, singing, wine tasting, and oysters.
